Chehalis students met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in all areas of the WASL in 2008-2009

342 Chehalis Middle School students, all who demonstrated exemplary behavior for the 2008-2009 school year, participated in the end-of-the-year All Stars reward activity

Cascade Scooter Town and Safety City Programs for kids have been proven to save lives

Fourteen (14) W.F. West Advanced Placement Classes (US History/Government, Current Issues, Advanced Physics, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Calculus 2, Freshman, Jr., & Sr. English, Molecular Genetics, French 3 & 4 and Spanish 3) had a combined total of 526 students

Five (5) Chehalis Middle School Accelerated classes (6th grade Delta Base, Algebra, Geometry, 7th & 8th grade Advanced English) had a combined total of 108 students in 2008-2009

R.E. Bennett Elementary School has three technology-based classrooms

Chehalis Middle School continues to host its annual jazz festival for our students and community featuring our school jazz bands and guest professional artists/clinicians

The YMCA after-school program continued to provide quality childcare for Chehalis School District students

23 Chehalis Middle School student leaders attended Leadership Training in 2009

The Transportation Department again passed state school bus inspections with 100%

The Twin Cities Virtual Academy program continued to serve our students with this alternative learning option for the 2008-2009 School Year

Many students participate in more than one sports season at both the middle and high schools

Cascade Elementary School and Sahara Pizza Nights were big successes with students and their families and approximately 450 students and family members attended the Spring School Barbecue

The Student Support Program continued to serve our students with excellent services

WIAA 2A Academic State Champs –Wrestling Cheer (3.728)

WIAA Outstanding Academic Awards (3.5-4.0 GPA) were awarded to the following teams – Girls Tennis Team (3.905), combined GPA, Girls Golf Team (3.663) Girls Basketball Team (3.671), Fastpitch (3.689)

WIAA Distinguished Academic Awards (3.0-3.49 GPA) were awarded to the following teams – Volleyball (3.461), Girls Soccer (3.422), Boys Tennis (3.163), Girls Cross Country (3.478), Boys Basketball (3.266), Fall Cheer (3.243), Boys Golf (3.372), Girls Swimming & Diving (3.008), Baseball (3.241), Girls Track & Field (3.355), Boys Track & Field (3.105)

Sports participation for 2008-2009: fall – 254 students, winter – 119 students, spring – 225 students

WIAA Scholastic Cup Standings – 670 Scholastic cup points – 10th out of 54 at 2A Classification

Chehalis Middle School students raised $891.00 for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society’s Program. They also raised $228.00 for the American Cancer Society

In 2008-2009, R.E. Bennett Family Center served over 800 visitors

The W.F. West Pep Band played during the football season, including a trip for a play-off game

The W.F. West Marching Band participated in the Chehalis Santa Parade

R.E. Bennett students helped move the children’s books from the library’s temporary facility into the new Vernetta Smith Timberland Library

Kindergarten through third grade students enjoyed continued success in options programs offered (all day Kindergarten, grades K/1 and 2/3 looping classes and grades K/1 and 2/3 multiage classes, as well as developmental preschool)

Delta Base students participated in the Washington State Salmon Hatch/Release program through the Department of Fish and Wildlife for the 20th year in a row – they raised and released 250 salmon

R.E. Bennett students have participated in the WSU Master Gardener’s program

23 W.F. West Choral students were selected to go to the Washington Music Educators Association State Solo and Ensemble Contest –the Westsingers and Lady Bearcat Choir ensembles received superior ratings

The Caribbean Breeze Steel Band performs annually at the Safeco Field for Seattle Mariners games

The Chehalis Middle School Symphonic and Jazz Band competed at the Warner Pacific College Band Festival where they received an Award of Excellence

40 Chehalis Middle School students volunteer at the Chehalis Food Bank

Olympic Elementary student council shared some special Holiday cheer with residents at Woodland Estates

Chehalis Middle School Symphonic Band performed at the 2009 Northwest Division Music Educators Conference. They were the only middle school band there – all other performing bands were at the high school and college level

Numerous teachers and administrators have won state and national recognition awards such as the Reading Renaissance Classroom Award, Christa McAullife Award, National Music Teacher’s Award, Girl Scout Crest Award, Washington Award for Excellence in Education, Washington State Health Teacher of the Year Award, Washington State School Nurse of the Year Award, Shaklee Teacher Award, WEA Leader in Restructuring Award, The Chronicle Best Teacher Award, WalMart Teacher of the Year Award, Washington State Forensics Coach Outstanding Achievement Award, University of Oregon Distinguished Educator Award, Regional Distinguished Principal Award, Washington Library Media Association Principal of the Year

Award, Washington State Autism Society Administrator of the Year Award, Elementary School Principals’ Association of Washington Distinguished Principal of the Year, Association of Washington School Principals Middle School Principal of the Year Award, and Washington Association of School Administrators’ Assistant Superintendent of the Year Award to name a few

Several Chehalis School District educators have also been nominated for the Disney Teacher Award

Many Chehalis School District staff and administrators participate on various regional and state committees and leadership teams and the Superintendent is a member of the Board of Directors for the Washington Association of School Administrators
